"I
have always had a certain song in my head, a certain chemistry of sounds.
I've always liked to sing noises since I was little, but then again everybody's
like that. But with writing songs - I have actually learned to talk and
express myself in lyrics and it took twenty years."

MINI 9 - 'Break Up at The Rock Show'
CD Review by Lisa Hayle
The women
of Glitter Mini 9 make us think without taking themselves too seriously.
This is a trio of grown-up women with lots to say and clever ways to say
it. The music is angry at times, but has a sweetness that keeps it out
of the super angry woman realm. The articulate 'Cuckoo' has a bite to
it, and is reminiscent of Hole. 'Dreamstalker' reads like diary lyrics
sung over power chords. 'Are You Bad' is simultaneously gritty and witty.
You can't help but think of Liz Phair when listening to the beautiful
'Wings and Forwards.'
It's rare
that a band has one compelling lead singer, let alone two. Both Poirer
and Skinfill have strong and distinct voices. Skinfill's guitar parts
are haunting and uncomplicated with Levias holding it down on drums. GM9's
frequent use of harmonies gives the music a girly sound that is more thought
provoking than inflammatory. There are enough 'ooh-ooh-ooh's' to put this
group right on the edge of cute - but the songs have a depth and creativity
that make them memorable.
GM9 is not
a strikingly original band, but one that is engaging for its original
amalgamation of elements we already like. Give a listen so you can say
you knew them when.

april 97: kismet in sth SF music classifieds. lesley and mauri
meet. love at first chord progression. presto! an indie rock band is born.
6 months laster, we open for third eye blind at the fillmore.
december
98 : 3 drummers, several boyfriends and 1000 cocktails later, we get
a rad drummer, Chá,
for keeps.
1999:
things are looking up. we're invited to lots of music festivals and
radio shows on the west coast. a little dazed by the biz, but happy. lesley
gets an audition for the bass spot in hole. mauri sings backing vocals
on 3eb's 'blue'. dreamworks didn't sign us. we record 'break-up at the
rock show'.
2000:
we land an sfx stadium tour opening for the likes of 3eb and duran
duran. what the hell. we tour the east coast. enter the manager from L.A.,
she means business. we spend the fall showcasing in hollywood. whirlwind
trips up and down I-5 take us away from work, school and friends. we get
commercial radio play and listen, amazed, as the sound of our band pipes
out of the portable stereo in our rehearsal space on night.
2001:
we play the warped tour. mtv picks up 'dreamstalker' for 'undressed
and sausage factory'. mauri makes the pages of guitar player mag. lesley's
hair is blue. we get tapped for a pbs documentary by indie filmmaker Kuang
Lee. summer is a recording studio with no available daylight. in the fall
we loan mauri out to preston school of industry for their 6 week tour.
as winter sets in, we slave towards a full-length album for spring 2002
release. a little surprised we've made it this far. fuck it. who wants
some?
