Simon Stinger plays Mingles (jack london square) Oct 17

Women Who Rock Wednesdays!

Working hard to advance women performers, Voice Is Venom, Oakland’s own webzine/promotional tool for women in rock, heartily welcomes Mingles, another rock venue to the East Bay music scene, by presenting a month of women-fronted bands. Simon Stinger and Luster take the floor next Wednesday, Oct. 17th.

Simon Stinger has been making big waves locally for the past few years. This is a band you don’t merely listen to, but experience fully. Vocalist-songwriter Alicia Perrone combines her magic with bassist-songwriter Victor James to create music with mass appeal. They are energized and raw and somehow create catchy music. Their sound ranges from rock to danceable and strange electronica. Oh, and did I mention the dancers?

And, formerly of See Jane Run, lead vocalist-bassist Kate Howser and guitarist-vocalist Jen Daunt created the opening band Luster. Luster pumps out honest, noisy, guitar-based rock. Killer guitar hooks and powerful vocals draw you in to their sound.

Wed/10 showcases Staci Twigg and Liz Pisco with Kindness and Enda closing the month on Wed/24.

Every Wednesday in October, 8:30pm. Mingles, 370 Embarcadero in Jack London Square, Oakl. $7.
